About
Established in 1999
Welcome to the Saint Mary Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church in Columbus!
Established in 1992 A.D (1999 G.C) by a devoted group of Orthodox Tewahdo faithful, our community has flourished alongside the growing Eritrean population in Columbus and its surroundings. Initially formed with just two priests and a devoted group of thirty registered members along with 45 children, our humble beginnings quickly expanded necessitating a relocation to better accommodate our burgeoning congregation.
Through the grace of God, we acquired a four-acre property, a space that now stands as a testament to our vibrant community’s growth. Today, our church is blessed with two priests and five deacons, extending its embrace to over 200 registered members and an additional 600 unregistered individuals seeking spiritual guidance and fellowship.
Our doors open wide every week to warmly welcome around 120 worshippers, while on holidays, our congregation swells to over a thousand, a testament to our shared faith and commitment to gathering in celebration and reverence. Over the weekends, our church serves as a hub for a myriad of youth activities including tutoring, sports, bible study, choir, and more, nurturing our younger generations in the richness of our faith.
From our inception, our vision has been steadfast – to unite Orthodox Tewahdo believers, faithfully adhering to the teachings of the Holy Bible and the sacred traditions of our church. Through dedicated teachings for both children and adults, we strive to illuminate the wisdom and grace encapsulated within the Holy Scriptures.
We invite you to join us at 1415 Sunbury Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43219, to experience the warmth of our community, the richness of our faith, and the unifying power of shared devotion at the Saint Mary Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church.
